LUNATE COLLAR / QUARTER CRESCENT - This is a heavy cast sterling silver piece. Made from three hinged plates, set with Baltic amber and garnets, with garnet drops. These can be seen depicted in mosaics of Empress Theodora and her court. The Byzantine Lunate collar denoted staus and wealth by the number of plates and ornamentaion.
